Family LawFamily Law- Services and/or representation for dissolution of marriage, visitation and support matters and services in adoption. Examples of other issues our Family Law Team may assist you with: Domestic Violence Assistance Domestic Violence Injunctions Child Custody Visitation, and Restrictions to Protect Abused Children Child Support Alimony Confidential Name Changes for Victims of Abuse and Stalking Possession and Division of Family Homes and other assets. Fair HousingThe Fair Housing Program improves our communities by providing community education on how to establish and preserve assets, and by representing residents with fair housing issues. It helps residents of Hillsborough County by obtaining accommodations for persons with disabilities, increasing knowledge of lending options, increasing the potential for homeownership among first time home buyers, and preserving housing. Preservation of housing by resolving legal problems related to housing.
Consumer LawRepresentation for low-income and the elderly who are susceptible to credit problems, consumer fraud, loss of a home, or foreclosure of a mortgage or construction lien.
Individual Rights To provide services and/or representation to appeal the denial or termination of Social Security, Medicaid, SSI disability, and food stamps. Bay Area staff also handles issues of employment, health and education.
Caregiver Advocacy ProgramCaregivers of the Elderly - The goal of this program is to relieve the emotional and financial hardships faced by caregivers who lack the legal knowledge and/or authority to do those things necessary to properly care for the individual in need. We provide legal information, advice and counsel, and when appropriate, legal representation. Senior Caregivers of Minor Children - To be eligible for services, the caregiver must be a US citizen or eligible alien, and the caregiver must be either 60 or older, or caring for a relative who is 60 or older.
ChildNetChildNet Located in Tampa and Plant City, stabilizes survivors of domestic violence and families through the provision of family law legal services and access to supportive services and community resources.
Judge Don Castor Community Law Center (Nonprofit Assistance) Legal and technical assistance for community-based organizations that are working to improve the lives of low-income families or to revitalize low-income communities.
The Legal Information CenterThe Legal Information Center is a free program to assist those people who are trying to represent themselves in certain types of cases. The Legal Information Center attorney will assist people with family law cases, residential landlord/tenant cases, and small claims cases.
Low Income Taxpayer Clinic As a recipient of the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) grant, we will provide services to lower income taxpayers and those for whom English is a second language. Service may include advice, representation, or community education. Services are available year-round.
Senior AdvocacyAttorneys and paralegals are advocates for the legal rights of the elderly. They consult, advise, and assist senior citizens in areas of civil law. Some examples are: *Family Law Assistance *Housing Preservation *Consumer Protection Income Preservation *Health Care Rights *Individual Rights
L. David Shear Childrens Law CenterIn an effort to assist more families Bay Area has established the Attorney Ad Litem Program. The Florida Bar Foundation and the Children's Board of Hillsborough County have funded Bay Area Legal Services to provide representation of foster care children ages birth through 5 and their siblings. Our representation will focus on reducing the time that children are in the foster care system; increase permanency through reunification and long term placements; and expedite adoptions. The Program will also provide training; co-counseling and mentoring opportunities for Hillsborough County pro bono attorneys as attorneys ad litem. Recently this program was renamed to thank and honor L. David Shear for all his contributions. The new name is: L. David Shear Children's Law Center of Bay Area Legal Services.
Volunteer LawyersThursday, February 12, 2009 - Friday, December 31, 2010Bay Area's Volunteer Lawyers Program (BAVLP) organizes and administers the volunteer efforts of hundreds of private and public sector attorneys in Hillsborough County.
